Bucephalus

The name 'Bucephalus' comes from the story of Alexander The Great of Macedonia.

Bucephalus was a black Thessalonian stallion with a large white star ( priced at $15 000  in 1990 dollars), brought out for the consideration Alexander's father Philip.  The young stallion proved to be ill mannered and unmanageable. Young Alexander, seeing that the great stallion was afraid of his shadow,  turned the horse towards the sun and vaulted on. The stallion soon calmed and the 12 year old boy was able to ride him back and forth. They went on to fight and win many battles together.  It is said that although Bucephalus allowed a groom to work with him, Alexander was the only person he would allow on his back.
